Inflammation-Fighting Superfoods: Healing Whole Foods Workshops with Natural Foods Chef DeAnn Laube
Food is truly our best medicine. Learn how to identify Superfoods that fight inflammation along with flavorful ways to incorporate them into your daily diet. In this three class series, chef DeAnn Laube will teach you how to choose and prepare healthy anti-inflammatory fats, protective flavonoids and antioxidants, and nourishing whole grains and beans. Learn how to bring healing whole foods into your everyday life.
1. Powerful Antioxidants - Completed
Fruits and vegetables are natures multivitamins. Learn how eating a rainbow of whole foods can provide you with key antioxidants and flavonoids that can help to cool down inflammation naturally. In this class, DeAnn will show you new inspiring ways to incorporate these essential whole foods into your everyday cooking.
On the menu: Festive Holiday Beet Soup with Pumpkin Seed Pesto, Wilted Pomegranate Greens with an Orange Balsamic Vinaigrette, Asian Forbidden Rice Salad, and Caramelized Roasted Roots Vegetables with Truffle Oil.
2. Healing Fats - Completed
Fats are essential to every cell in our body. When we consume healthy fats, our skin glows and we feel great. Knowing how to choose the right fats is crucial to reducing and preventing inflammatory conditions. Learn which fats to choose, as well as new delicious ways to include these healing fats into your diet.
On the menu: Massaged Kale with Apples and Candied Walnuts smothered in a Maple Balsamic Vinaigrette, Coconut Quinoa with Toasted Almonds and Currents, Nori-wrapped Salmon, and Rich Chocolate Silk Avocado Mouse.
3. Nourishing Grains and Beans - March 22, 2012
Whole grains and beans are nutritional power houses that are packed full of vitamins and minerals. They are also an excellent sources of fiber, which is vital for reducing and preventing inflammatory problems. Want to know how to properly cook beans to be tender, bursting with flavor and easy to digest? Learn the secrets to perfectly prepared beans and wholesome grains, as well as great ideas of how to incorporate them into your daily meals.
On the menu: Hearty White Bean and Kale Soup, Saffron Toasted Millet with Savory Roasted Red Peppers, Creamy Spiced-up Hummus, and Warm Cranberry Quinoa Pilaf.
*All classes are dairy and gluten-free.

Compute with Comfort: A Feldenkrais ATM® Workshop

Whether you spend hours, days or minutes in front of a computer, you have probably already experienced at least some of the challenges of doing so. In this workshop we will explore ATM® Lessons allowing you to learn to sit in a more neutral and easy way. By learning to widen your focus and access your awareness, you can notice when changes are necessary and be able to increase your comfort, dynamic alignment, and efficiency. Learn to decrease effort and discomfort from repetitive habits of sitting. We will be exploring ATM lessons in a variety of positions—not just in sitting. This workshop can benefit first-time FELDENKRAIS participants or those who have attended ATM classes before. Please dress in layers and bring an extra towel.

Developed by Joseph H. Pilates, The Pilates method is a unique approach to physical conditioning, emphasizing a more holistic appoach to movement and exercise. Not only does Pilates focus on developing strong muscles of the abdomen and back, but demands mental concentration, attention to breath and control, and improves an overall sense of well-being. Pilates can be for anyone and everyone at any age! Each session is individually tailored to meet personal goals, while at the same time addressing musculoskeletal imbalances and limitations.

Active Isolated Stretching, - Wednesdays, by appointment only
Instructor: Karen Black
Founded more than 20 years ago by Aaron Matthes, A.I.S. is a unique method of stretching that allows the ody to prepare for daily activities. This type of streching works with the body's natural physiological framework, improving circulation, increasing elasticity of muscle joints and fascia, while at the same time, decreasing pain. Many athletes and dancers use this technique to increase and restore range of motion, warm up/warm down, and reduce susceptibility to injury. A typical session will include upper and lowerbody stretches, along with learning how to use your stretching rope for at-home use.
